Clapdale Wool

Clapdale Wool is not just any locally sourced traceable hand knit wool. We’ve paid our farmers more per kg for their wool (£1 per kg minimum) to cover the cost of shearing and they receive a profit share of everything we make from the project.

The project has been supported by the Yorkshire Dales National Park SDF and FIPL programmes. The Clapdale Wool project's goal is to create a sustainable economy for wool in our local community and a stunning wool yarn that reflects the beauty of our local rugged rural landscape.

We're using all the sheep breeds from seven local farms who have sheep on the fells of Ingleborough mountain. This includes Dalesbred, North of England Mule, Texel, Teeswater and Blue Faced Leicester.

The wool is then scoured, carded, combed and spun all in Yorkshire, within 50 miles of the sheep it comes from.

Our yarn is currently available in undyed natural and five machine dyed colours. We also have limited edition hand-dyed DK hanks, and 2-ply laceweight balls and cones.

We've also produced a range of limited edition knitwear from our Clapdale Yarn including the thick zig zag pattern Thwaite Jumper, cattlegrid knit jumpers and Aran beanie hats.
