One of the joys that come with the Easter celebrations is delicious chocolate. Unfortunately, chocolate can be a nightmare if you manage to stain your clothes.
This can be particularly problematic if you are wearing wool. Stains set into wool faster than other fabrics, so you need to make sure you clean chocolate out of wool as quickly as possible. Make sure to avoid heat contact of any kind as this can set the stain into the wool further, making it harder to remove.
Here are some simple steps on how to clean wool, especially when there is chocolate around!
Treat
Firstly, you want to get rid of any excess liquid or crumbs using a dry cloth or paper towel. Then, try to scrape everything you can off using a blunt surface. After that, using a linen cloth (as to not shed lint), gently dab at the stain with a 1:1 ratio solution of white wine vinegar and wool detergent diluted with cold water. Work inwards on the stain and from the inside to limit the stain from spreading.
Soak
After treating the stain, soak the garment in a mixture of wool detergent and cool water. Gently rub the stain and rinse until all the suds have washed away.
Rinse
Using a splash of white wine vinegar mixed with cool water, rinse the stain until the solution runs clear.
Dry
The final stage is to dry your garment. You can wrap it up in a towel or, for bigger items, layer it between two towels, and gently twist it to remove any excess water. Make sure you leave it laid out flat and out of sunlight.
If this doesn’t work, it is worth contacting a dry cleaner to see if they have anything that can help. If you use any additional products, make sure they are suitable to use on wool.
