Clapham-based country clothing brand Glencroft has been announced as a finalist in two categories at this year’s Yorkshire & Humberside Family Business Awards 2023, due to take place in a month.

The family-run business which makes country clothing and accessories from natural fibres including British Wool, has been shortlisted in both the Small Retailers & E-Tailers and Wholesalers categories.

Co-hosted by Dave Clarkson and Sue Howorth of The Family Business Community, alongside renowned food and drink writer, and presenter Nigel Barden, this year’s event will take place on Friday 10th November 2023 at The Majestic Hotel in the beautiful spa town of Harrogate.

Glencroft has beaten off strong competition to become a finalist, with a record number of family businesses entering the awards from across the Yorkshire & Humberside region this year.

Edward Sexton, Partner at Glencroft, commented: “It is a pleasure to see the business that my parents set up back in the 1980s receive recognition as a finalist at the Yorkshire & Humberside Family Business Awards. They have worked tirelessly over the past 40 years to develop a countrywear brand founded on quality using natural materials and made to last a lifetime.

“Running a family business takes hard work and commitment – something which my parents know only too well, as my father continues to hand trim our sheepskin rugs well into his 80s! We understand that we will be up against some similarly committed families at the awards. We would like to wish everyone shortlisted the best of luck and look forward to the event in a month’s time.”

Co-Founder and Director, Sue Howorth said: “With over double the entries from last year we have been burning the midnight oil to get through them as they came in right up to the wire. The judges had extremely difficult decisions to make so the finalists should be extremely proud of themselves!

Co-director, Dave Clarkson said: “A huge thank you to everyone who has invested time filling in their application forms. We’ve been absolutely blown away by the strength and diversity and attention to detail in the applications.”

Joel Topham from Sagars in Leeds, and who were the hosts of our Judging Day, said: “The number and quality of applications from across the Yorkshire & Humberside region has been outstanding, the businesses are clearly proud to be family businesses and the detail in many of the entries has demonstrated that they are very progressive and innovative.

The finalists will receive a visit from a specially selected panel of judges from across the region before the judges make their final decisions.

The winners will be announced at a vibrant and entertaining awards celebration on Friday 10th November.
