Valerian Herdwick Breed British Sheepskin Rug

This very rustic British sheepskin is a combination of various shades of grey, brown and cream, although depending on the lighting it can look more black and white. Our photos have been taken inside under natural light.

As our sheepskins are tanned in bulk, all mixed together, we can only guess at the exact breed based on colour and texture. It will be from a hardy Northern British breed due to the slightly coarse fleece, designed to keep the sheep warm in harsh climates. We think it may be a North Ronaldsay or Orkney sheep due to the colouring. Or possibly a Herdwick Cross? 

The fleece is reasonably soft, but also has a slight coarse feel. It is extremely matted, with a good couple of inches of clumpy wool beneath the longer tufty hair found across the majority of the rug. There is a small darker section in the centre of the rug where the long hair is not present. 

Mountain sheep breeds like these have unique colouring but also their tough environments lead to a very heavy, matted rustic rug like this!

Like all our rugs, it has been tanned in the UK and hand finished in our Yorkshire Dales warehouse.
