A huge genuine Herdwick breed sheepskin rug, entirely tanned and hand finished ni the UK. This is one of the biggest Herdwick rugs we have seen, a rare find.
This unique rug consists of various shades of grey and cream, with some subtle brown highlights, common to the Herdwick breed.
Although soft on the surface, this sheepskin is very matted underneath. There is longer wool found around the edges with a shorter haired central patch, likely from where the rain has flattened down the wool on the sheep's back, there are also some coarse patches, typical for this breed.
At the bottom left there is also a dip in the wool where some fleece has likely been cut out (for example to remove a bramble or similar from the sheep) and not grown back, not visible when the fleece is combed flat as in our photos.
Herdwick sheep are known for having a much coarser fleece than many other sheep - a mountain breed common to the hills and fells of the Lake District, the coarse and often wiry wool is perfect to keep it warm in this environment.
Like all our rugs, it has been tanned in the UK and hand finished in our Yorkshire Dales warehouse. Most Glencroft sheepskins go to specialist independent retailers across the country. We pick a few out each week for sale online, once they're gone they're gone!
You will receive the EXACT rug in these photos.
