We are extremely proud and honoured to say we won Rural Business of the Year at the Yorkshire Post Country Week Rural Awards 2022 a couple of weeks ago at a glitzy awards do at the Pavilions of Harrogate.
The Yorkshire Post’s Rural Awards celebrate the successes of businesses, organisations and individuals in the agricultural sector and the lifestyles that make our region’s countryside a wonderful place to live and work.
After being shortlisted for this category back in September we were excited to attend the event and meet all the other nominees for all the awards. Everyone we spoke to had a fantastic business story, from farmers diversifying their businesses and looking after the land for future generations to food businesses supplying locally sourced produce around the world. We were up against stiff competition alongside James Wilding Joinery; Red Stag Media; How Stean Gorge; and Soanes Poultry.
This is the first award we’ve ever won so we were very suprised when they read our name out! Edward had to check with his colleague that he had actually heard our business name before collecting it and being asked to give a short speech.
Sponsored by accountant Smailes Goldie, the Rural Business of the Year award celebrates Yorkshire businesses in small villages who are making a positive difference to their area through creating jobs and innovating. Glencroft’s Clapdale Wool project really stood out for the judges due to it’s ambition to create a circular economy for wool.
Glencroft owner, Edward Sexton said:
“We are so proud to win Rural Business of the Year but we couldn’t have done it without the local farmers who have taken a punt on us and our Clapdale Wool Project. We’ve only just begun and are now processing 3 tonnes in our second year of the project – we look forward to creating something special with wool in this corner of the Dales”
Our award now sits in pride of place in our warehouse in Clapham.
